About Aldorven
Bowls you can drop.
Aldorven makes eight pieces of enamelware: bowls for eating from, bowls for cooking with and one big basin, all pressed from steel and coated in glass.
Enamelware is old technology. A sheet of steel is pressed into shape, dipped in a slurry of powdered glass and fired until the glass melts onto it. What comes out is a bowl that weighs a fraction of a ceramic one, will not shatter on a tiled floor, goes in the oven and can sit on a low flame to warm soup through. We like it because it is honest about what it is and it lasts for decades if you dry it.
What we decided
- Eight pieces, not eighty. Cereal, soup and pasta bowls, a lidded bowl, a serving bowl, a mixing bowl with a lip, a basin and a nesting set.
- Glass enamel inside and out. No coating that can flake off into food, nothing that holds smells or stains.
- A contrasting rim. The rolled edge is enamelled in a second colour, which also shows you where the bowl is thinnest and most likely to chip.
- Sizes and capacities you can check. Every product page gives diameter, depth, capacity and weight, and says they are approximate.
How a bowl is made
The steel is cut and pressed into shape, cleaned, and the rim is rolled over so there is no sharp edge. The bowl is dipped in a ground coat, then a colour coat, and fired at around 800 °C each time. The rim is painted in its second colour and fired again. Small variations are part of that process: a dark speck at the rim, a slight wave in the glaze, the occasional pinhole.
What enamel does well, and what it does not
It does not break when dropped, it is light, it cleans with hot water and it does not take on the smell of last night's curry. It does chip if it lands hard on its rim, and where it chips the steel underneath can rust if left wet. It is not for the microwave. We would rather tell you now than have you find out.
Packed in paper and card
Every piece is wrapped in kraft paper and boxed with a corrugated divider so rims do not knock together in transit. No plastic foam, no glossy insert.
What we will not claim
That enamel cannot chip: it can, on the rim, if dropped hard. That two bowls will be identical: they will be close, not the same. That every size fits every dishwasher: the 32 cm basin does not.
How we sell
We sell only through this website. There is no shop and no marketplace listing. Orders are packed and shipped from Hong Kong to the United States and to most countries worldwide, and every enquiry is answered by email.
You may have found us through an advert in a mobile app; we advertise through AppLovin and other platforms. How that works, and how to opt out of personalised advertising, is set out in our privacy policy.
